After months of freight congestion in the US West ports, the situation has considerably made a steady progress though some shippers remain struggling with trade intervals and lost business.

The Congestion in the US west coast ports which started in 2014 and was carried over in 2015 had rippled through supply chains. According to officials, only ten percent of cargo sailings arrived on time.

The freight traffic began in July 2014 and peaked in January and February during the subsequent year. This has affected supply chains immensely as it saw delays on freights and deliveries by sea.

 When a settlement was reached in Feb. 20 between the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and waterfront employers, the US west ports condition has improved significantly.

Though this has been a great development compared to the crucial period throughout the crisis, countries such as Mexico, China and Japan have been greatly affected and a number of customers have already considered rerouting shipments.

According to a Journal of Commerce industry poll, this year and next, 65 shippers out of 138 are planning to direct less shipments via the west coast ports.
